Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society member Dr. Arthur Day has received national recognition for his contributions to medicine since 1987, when he was named one of the “Best Doctors in America.” Since then, national and local publications like Town & Country magazine, Good Housekeeping Magazine, and Boston Magazine have regularly named Dr. Arthur Day one of the country's top doctors. In 2009, Dr. Arthur Day also attained a title as one of “America's Top Doctors for Cancer.” Dr. Arthur Day began his medical career as a student of Louisiana State University, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) in 1972. Following his graduation, Dr. Arthur Day completed a surgical internship in Birmingham, Alabama, and a neurological surgery residency at the University of Florida, Gainesville. Dr. Arthur Day also completed a neuropathology research fellowship in brain tumor immunology at the University of Florida. Possessing medical licenses in Louisiana, Florida, and Massachusetts, Dr. Arthur Day has instructed courses in neurological surgery at institutions throughout the world, including New York University, Columbia University, Shinshu University in Japan, the Chicago Institute of Neurosurgery and Neuroresearch, and the Brazilian Neurosurgical Society. Dr. Arthur Day has also served as Professor of Neurosurgery at Harvard Medical School. In addition to his responsibilities at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Arthur Day acted as the Director of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital’s Cerebrovascular Center and Neurologic Sports Injury Center in the Department of Neurosurgery. Dr. Day was also an Associate Surgeon with St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center of Boston. As a staff member of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dr. Day participated on the Pay for Performance Subcommittee and the First Case on Time Subcommittee. From 2002 until 2009, Dr. Arthur Day served an additional role as Program Director for the Harvard Medical School Neurological Surgery Residency Training Program, with rotations taking place at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. In this position, Dr. Day revised rotation schedules to comply with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements; he also taught residency and cerebrovascular conferences twice a week and provided guidance for medical students in the Neurological Surgery Program. Under Dr. Day's direction, the program's residents attained an impressive track record of securing research grants, awards, and scholarships.
